We take US69 off I-20 up to Greenville TX, then take US380 west to Decatur TX where you will pickup 287 to Wichita Falls.
This was our regular route for many years, BUT the congestion, traffic, stop lights along US 380 has become onerous with the spilling out of the surburbs north of Dallas.
That is why we now go on up to US 82 and go across north Texas along the Red River.
Of course, this is a personal preference that not everyone would agree with.
An option would be to stay on US 69 to Sherman, Texas and pick up US 82 there. Because of our starting point it is better for us to go on up to Paris.
