Will be heading west late May/early June. Considering taking I-20 to I-35W(north) to Hwy 287 to Amarillo. Can those of you who have traveled Hwy 287 tell me what gas stations along that route can accommodate RVs ? We are pulling a 31' 5er. We will most likely need to find a campground along that route, probably near Wichita Falls. Appreciate any info.

Be aware that there is on-going construction on I-35W on the north side of Ft Worth and around the I-35W/US 287 interchange. I think it only involves a relative short distance along that route. Maybe someone who lives in Ft Worth or has been thru there recently can give an update.You will not have a problem finding fuel on US 287. There are many towns along the way, especially between Wichita Falls and Amarillo, and most all have at least one station that provides easy access for a large RV whether MH or long truck/trailer. Just start looking before the tank gets too low. A very good highway all the way to Amarillo.As far as RV parks, there are some south of Wichita Falls (between there and Decatur) but I have never stayed at any of them. I don't remember many between Wichita Falls and Amarillo though. We travel that route every year but for us Amarillo is our first stop.

Another option is taking I20 to Weatherford and then FM920 to US287 at Decatur. It adds some miles, but probably not much time.

We go through Amarillo to Colorado several times a year.We have modified our route to drive north to US 82 at Paris, Texas (if coming from further east, that would be at Texarkana), all the way to the intersection with 287 near Wichita Falls. This way we avoid the congestion of the metraplex (Dallas/Fort Worth) and the suburbs sprawling to the north. US 82 is a pleaant drive with little traffic.There are two good places for camping besides Wichita Falls: The Rocking A in Vernon, and the Ole Town Cotton Gin at Goodlett, Texas (near Quanah.) In recent years we have stayed almost exclusively at the Ole Town Gin. It is a very good place for overnight--level sites with full hook-ups. WIFI, but not very many TV choices. Still, that's our choice on the way to Amarillo.

Appreciate any info.Enjoy the rt. done it for years, get a little of that red cay on your tires.Gas in Vernon, they just closed the Chev dealer ship in Vernon. Rattle snakes the size of a Winnebago.

I don't recall any gas stations along 287 that are not suitable for RVs. I suspect that over the years we've stopped at about half of them. Your rig may be longer than mine which is just a little over 53 feet.
