- JimandAileenExplorerThanks the information we received from Two Gypsies on 7/23/2018 was perfect and it helped us get all of our trip lined up. Now we are going to leave Grand Canyon in Oct and head to Sedona and then to Palm Springs California. We haves three weeks to travel and we are asking once more, for information on good stops and routes. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks again

It's a gorgeous drive and popular with RVers. However, you will have Wolf Creek Pass just north of Pagosa Springs, CO. There are steep sections but it's a wide highway, multiple lanes. If you're confident in your braking techniques (downshift before you even start on the downhills - not in the midst) you shouldn't have any issues. It'll be over before you know it! :) Plan to stop for a night or two and relax in the immaculate Pagosa Springs hot springs - small pools of varying temperatures. We can spend 3-4 hours there just moving from pool to pool. Ahhh. The concrete pools overlook the river - very pleasant. Nice changing rooms, showers, lockers. Pack a small cooler & enjoy!
Don't forget Mesa Verde Nat'l Park in Cortez, CO at 160. When you get to Kayenta, AZ at 160 make a slight detour north on 163 and tour Monument Valley. Stay at Gouldings. Back on 160 to AZ 89 is easy. Then take 89 south a short distance to Hwy 64 and go west into Grand Canyon NP. Don't drive all the way into Flagstaff. 64 west is a very good highway into the park. At that intersection is Cameron Trading Post which has a gorgeous Indian gift shop and excellent restaurant. Try the Navajo tacos. Enjoy the trip! :) It's a favorite drive of ours.
