If you want to go up through Utah, a stay at Moab gets you a visit to Canyonlands NP, Arches NP, and Dead Horse Point SP.
We've been down it a couple of times but I have to say that I'm generally immune to steep roads and switchbacks if that's what you mean. I don't recall any thing dramatic on the road but it has been at least 10 years since we went up that way so I could have forgotten it.
