tucson to vegas

I'm headed to Vegas from Tucson in the morning and driving a 40' class A with tow. Who has driven 17 to Flaggstaff? Need some advice...don't want any narrow steep roads! Thanks in advance to anyone with the info!
  • FYI, I-40 from Flagstaff to Kingman is in very bad shape. You will need to drive in the left lane most of the time and sometimes that lane is bad too.
Take the 93 route and you will bypass most of the bad road.

Wow - nobody so far knows how to get there (NV I presume?)! From Tucson: I 10 to Phoenix then I 17 north to the Carefree Highway (exit 223). Then west to US 60 and north thru' Wickenburg. North of Wickenburg to 93 NW to I 10. West thru' Kingman and back on 93 and follow along to Los Vegas.

That's the route to take, but this should say I40.
    "Wickenburg to 93 NW to I 10."

Easier drive than I17 and a more direct route.

This is the correct route to take! Also, I-17 is an interstate. Interstates are not narrow. It has 4 lanes. With a 40' motorhome you'll have no problems whichever way you go. You're in the West now so you're going to have hills to climb. :)

We have driven I-17 to Flag. It is somewhat steep at times, it is not narrow. Shouldn't have any problem with it. Nothing severely steep.

Never been to Vegas, except the one in NM.

  • going up 93 is our choice, also. we love staying overnight up at Burro Creek Canyon campground, just south of Wikieup. Water and dump station and a nice little creek.
You can get to 93 by taking I 10 west to 101, then north to 93. 303 is better IF they have finished working on the junction where it comes into I 10.
  • The shortest route is right up the 93. Outside of Phoenix the 93 becomes a lovely 2 lane road. It is an easy straight drive but passing or being passed is problematic is that issue bothers you. The 93 up to Las Vegas is now ok since they opened the bridge that bypasses the Dam.
A longer but less stressful option is freeway all the way. Take the 17 to Flagstaff. Then the 40 to the 93. It will take a bit longer but there are plenty of places to stop and stretch along the way. It was a long drive the many times I traveled that way in a car. The many MH drives were really too long for me. I would rather drive from Tucson to Williams, spend the night and take the next leg up to Las Vegas.
    Enjoy and Happy Trails.
