Tupelo MS to Montgomery, AL options?

Looking at Tupelo then south on ALT 45 to meridan, MS then east on Hwy 20 then 80 in AL? Anyone know about this road.

Other way would be out of Tupelo go east toward Birmingham then south on the interstate to Montgomery. Not sure about either of these routes.
I have traveled the route ALT 45 To Meridan, MS and it's fine - usually just keep going south from there so not sure about the road east.
Interested in type of road and other experiences.

    I recommend Foscue Creek COE park. I am there now as a camp host and it is a very nice park. It is fun watching the water level rise from the TennTom Waterway, but only a few of the low sites will be in jeopardy and those aren't occupied during periods of high water.

    45 is a good road, mostly 4 lane till you get to the state line.

    Road it last Sept. on the Goldwing with the pup going to Mobile.

    PS. can not remember the weight rating or height of bridge as we camped in Demopolis on way to NOLA.

    3 years ago 80 was 4 lane (65 to Selma) and did not have any problems. Foscue COE park is great with FHU and on the lake. Take a tour thru Selma and cross the Pettus bridge (had no problems in the area), There is a park under the bridge, could be cleaner.
    DW is from Philippines and wanted to sight see and what the march route was about.

    We traveled 82 from I-55 to Tuscaloosa and it is a good road. Not much to see as it is rural, but the good thing is -very little traffic and almost no semis. It is a pleasant drive.

    If you are going to the coast why not stay on US 45 all the way to 158 in Alabama just north of Prichard. Good 4 lane road until the Alabama state line. It is good 2 lane road until you get to 158 take that to I-65 then south to I-10 in Mobile. We have driven this to Pensacola Fl more than once. There is very little traffic on 45. Smooth road and very few stops.

    How about Tupelo south to U.S. Hwy 82 and take it all the way to Montgomery? You can get to 82 on various highways south and east of Tupelo. The only town of any size along this route is Tuscaloosa and that will slow you down a bit, but the rest of this trip is rural and only a couple of small towns. There is a state rest stop at Maplesville, AL with a tank dump. I know the Maplesville area well since that is my home base.

    I was thinking of something more - interesting or scenic. Thanks for the info about the construction on I-80 by Cuba, AL. The scenic - was why I had discounted the Birmingham route. Though it cuts off about 60 miles according to Mapquest. Looks like we would be going directing through Birmingham on Hwy 65.
