TX HWY 21

We are traveling from the Austin TX area to Shreveport with a 36ft 5th Wheel. Has anyone traveled on TX 21 through Collage Station and beyond? Is this road RV friendly? If not any suggestions, trying to avoid IH35.

  • TX 21 is a good road and will accommodate your rig - but parts of it are two-lane. We usually jog up to US 79 to travel between those locations.

  • Agree that TX secondary roads are better than most interstates. I have driven 21 as far as College Station but use US79 most of the time from Austin (Round Rock) to Shreveport. I have relatives all along 79 :) I know 79 is a good road for RV and is 4 lane for a lot of the way.
  • Have not been on that route; however, most Texas State highways are in very good condition.
