I called the company that issued the card before we traveled through Canada and was told there was no fee for using the card outside the US. When I receive my bill it showed a favorable exchange rate and no fees.

My Bank of America credit card, which I received about six months ago, has both the new chip and the mag strip on the back. Only one I have received that has the chip.

Magnetic strip is being phased out, the chip will replace it. We have heard of un-chipped cards being refused in Europe. In Canada it will just be a matter of time .....

Why not apply for an international card now and be ready? Most card companies can provide you with one if you request it.

American Express & Discover aren't as popular in Canada as the US.

Definitely call your card vendor and check before you go so you won't be surprised when the bill arrives.

They will work no problem, just be prepared to pay an extra 2% on the exchange rate.

You can use them with or without a chip! Come on up and spend, spend, spend!
