Update on Canceling TIP

Sent in papers in accordance with TT recomended, DHL, 3 1/2 months ago. Nothing. How did they correspond with you? Maybe its to early. All originals were sent so that's that.
Have new unit now, thinking of just going ahead as if it were cancelled. If I get denied at border, I'll just go to SPI instead.

Did you track the DHL package?
Mine got there in one day.
They responded in less than 2 weeks.

I would attempt to apply for your new TIP on-line. If it works you are all set, if not you won't be able to do at the border unless you have registration in another name.

Did you provide a mailing address when you sent in your paperwork? Did you use DHL or snail mail? If the latter your paperwork is probably in some landfill in Mexico. I initially received a letter from them stating that my paperwork was incomplete. I needed a letter from the DMV stating that another person had registered that vehicle. Mississippi would not provide that letter. I spent a lot of time on the phone with some gal in Mexico and she insisted that without that letter it would not be canceled. She spoke zero English. My Spanish is so so and really bad when my BP is high! Had she understood English I would have told her what to do with my paperwork! Once I cooled off I contacted the new owner and he provided me with a whole bunch of notarized papers. One showed that he had paid the tax on the MH and another was an official receipt for his application for a title. I sent that via DHL . Cost was outrageous. Getting close to the cost of a cheap airline ticket( well almost). About 6 weeks later Banjercito sent me a " Certificado de Returno Defenitivo" I am going to frame it. What fun!

It took 6 months for my friend who cancelled his trip after getting the sticker on line. Coincidentally, or conveniently, they cancelled it just after the 180 day permit had expired, so he lost his $300 deposit.

Ken change the registration on the new TT to your wife, or if it is both names get a permit on line using her name.

I've got an alternative. Wait until you are old. Get a 10-year permit and forget about cancellation. You are going to get cancelled before your TIP.

Just lazy, may be my reason for not turning the RV TIP in, each time. After getting the FMM going south I return to the M H and maybe wash the windows, while DW stands in line to get the one for the towed. Same on our return north, although I'm more likely to have a short snooze.

We came back with tourist permits one year and things changed (death in the family)and we didn't get back in time, so had to take them in to the Mex consulate - downtown Vancouver, major traffic, no receipt issued. Thankfully it came out ok, but since then, we return everything no matter what the big plan is. It's just too much hassle if things go sideways or you don't take the same rig back (or can't).

Folks who know they will keep their rig and keep going to Mexico will gradually realize a monetary advantage, small though it may be. For instance, we have gone to Mexico eight times since getting the ten year permit the beginning of December, 2005. Since then we have traveled on that initial TIP, which cost then about 55 dollars. Had I returned it every year on leaving the country my returning cost for all Ten Year TIP's would have been nearly 450 dollars. During that time I've changed the windshield twice, each time transferring the same sticker. Of course, I have no way of knowing whether the cost of the RV TIP has changed during that time.

If you have a permit that needs canceling you must follow all the procedures. If everything is not 100% correct your request will be denied. Do not bother trying to phone for clarification. I tried from within Mexico and Canada as well. The phone connections are horrible with a ton of background noise. Very stressful!
