The times given on routing programs do not take into consideration sitting for a half hour or more waiting for the pilot car to lead you through the construction several times during the day, or the 11 mile stretch of road on the Alaska Highway between Burwash Landing and Beaver Creek where you are lucky if you can drive 20 mph or you will beat up your vehicle. Seeing a country through the windshield only works for a bit. You will want to get off the main roads and see what else is out there.
Here is the link to our trip for this year. Keep in mind we did not spend time in Fairbanks, Anchorage, or Skagway and very little time in Seward and Valdez as we have been those places several times before. This may give you some idea of the many things to see and do in Alaska.
