I would not bother with the toad either. There are class C's everywhere in Alaska. You will save time and gas, not to mention wear and tear, to leave it home. There is really no need for a tourist to have 4wd in Alaska in the summer. I'd want the smallest class C I could tolerate too. There are few places you'll need the toad but maybe lots of places you'll need to back up. I pulled a car and tow dolly behind a u-haul and we were able to find pull through sites, but that was in mid Sept when most of the tourists were gone and campgrounds were pretty empty. By all means get to Cache Creek as fast as you can, drive in shifts, the bulk of the great scenery is north of there, not all, but most. Northern BC is just as full of wildlife as Alaska, so don't short change yourself there. It's all great but spend as much time as you can in Denali and on the Kenai Peninsula, and yeah you need those reservations for Denali far in advance. Know in advance that there will be crowds that might not fit with your expectations of Alaska, but there are half a million Alaskans and all those tourists traveling a very small road system and most of it from Denali south. When it is crowded and noisy and full of traffic, just keep your sights on the scenery! When you see others pulled over that is a sure sign of wildlife...and if you can hunker down somewhere on the weekends and do your traveling and exploring on weekdays. The traffic out of Anchorage starts Friday about 2P, flows out like the tide and then back in on Sunday afternoon. Unless you like traffic spend Friday morning to Monday morning stationary. Soldotna/Kenai, Anchorage, Wasilla, Fairbanks, Delta Junction are the places to outfit if you need it. You'll find everything in those places you can at home.
