Both Muninsing (SP?) at Picture Rocks NLS and Houghton (Entrance to Copper Country) have nice FHU city owned RV parks.
At Muninsing we sat with the back end of the trailer almost hanging out over the Lake Superior beach.
Reservations are probably a must at Houghton. From there you can explore the old mines and support facilities such as the railroad.
Don't miss the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point. Out of the way, but worth it although you will probably regret that "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" was ever recorded.
