US 23?

We're heading south on our way to store in middle Tennessee for the fall. Decided to try eastern Ohio and Kentucky on our way down. MapQuest suggests the best route from Zanesville, OH to Ashland, KY would be US 23. Anyone familiar with that stretch of road? When in unfamiliar territory, I generally default to interstates, but Wikipedia describes US 23 as mostly four-lane, divided highway. Anyone think of a reason NOT to use that route?
