US 63 in Arkansas?

How is US 63 coming off of I-55 just North of Memphis? We are looking at another trip (in car this time) for a wedding in Holiday Island, AR. US 63 will connect to US 62 which is a nice road. I may want to use this route later for a trip in Daisy to Bull Shoals. Are there any steep mountains in that area?

Also I read somewhere on these forums about people avoiding Memphis. Is there a reason for that?
  • Thanks for the info. I will then be able to put Missouri on my map as being visited.
  • I live in Shell Knob, Mo., about 30 miles from Holiday Island. I have driven 62-63 going to my dad's in Al several times a year. It is a very good road and is continually getting better. The construction seems to be winding down and a lot of it is now 4 lane. When you get to Berryville Ar., head north on 21 to 86 in Mo. Then west to 23, then south into Holiday Island. You don't want to tow through Eureka Springs if you can avoid it.

Were there any tall mountain peaks?
  • Never been on that part of 63 but run the lower part of 63 all the time (from Pine Bluff to El Dorado) and it is a great road. Matter of fact, just came from there today. There is a little construction going on right now but no problems.
  • Awwww come on , Memphis is a great town to visit. Just do it on Sundays between 10 am and 11am and be sure your 30 cal machine gun is greased properly.
  • If you are going to stay in the Memphis area stay at Tom Sawyers in West Memphis. Clost to the interstate but on the Mighty Mississippi. You do not want to stay at any of the campgrounds in Memphis due to the possibility of harm coming to you and yours.
63 in Ark. going to Jonesboro is good road. Mostly 4 lane.
