US 70 between I-30 and Hot Springs Ark???

Will be going to Hot Springs at tne end of this month (April). I have heard that US 70 is under construction and may not be passable for a bigger RV. Does anyone travel that route, and have any idea what is going on there?? From what I have heard, signs say talk and alternate route. What is going on??

  • We were just in Hot Springs last week and took the route from I30 in on 70. There was construction going on to widen the road. However, traffic flowed well and there were no areas where lanes had been narrowed. Not sure what future construction holds but from what we saw you would be just fine.
  • I suggest calling Cloud Nine RV Park and asking. They are located just off that highway. I'm sure they will know.

BTW - I stayed there last year and it's a great place.
  • Just for clarification, we ARE talking US-70 in Arkansas, NOT I-70 out west ala Colorado/Kansas? Wouldn't most truck traffic on US-70 just be local between Hot Springs and I-30?

I ask because first reply said I-70.
  • Good! Maybe with some good weather for a change, they will at least not have any major blockage. We will be on the weeked also, so that should help. Yes, f trucks can get through, I can., but the friend was talking about signs saying to take alternate routes, so we were afaid of closures.
  • I have to tell you they may have construction but I doubt that they would narrow I-70 because of all the major truck traffic that runs across that road.

If a truck can make so can you and I have to say there is maybe a few thousand trucks a week run across that road. They may detour you to one side of the HWY or the other and yes it maybe narrow enough to make you a little nervous but not narrow enough that you can get thought :)
