US Route 50 Nevada - Loneliest Highway

Traffic picked up a lot once the Life Magazine article came out in the late 1980's. Of course that made it a "destination" for travelers. I remember working out there in the early 80's when we had a breakdown on one of the dirt trails off of US 50. Six or eight mile walk back to US 50 (it was December and was snowing the whole way). We then start walking toward Eureka. I'm guessing it was 15-20 minutes before the first vehicle passed us going in either direction. Thank goodness he was heading our direction and stopped to pick us up. Back then, it was a lot lonelier.
