Using RV Plan and Go-Pc Nav Software

OK I'm getting some experience with RV Plan N Go $28 at Amazon. Right now it's about the only PC trip planning software available and it has not been updated for several years. The others are extinct.

After using this for awhile I'm beginning to understand it better. It is by no means intuitive nor act like you expect a well designed windows software package to work in the 21st century. But it does get there. Leaving a waypoint for the trip for example requires holding down the shift-left mouse buttons. And then only leaves you the choices of -start, finish or via. But on the other hand you can do the trip calculation from that pop up.

Leaving a marker or signpost on the map requires opening the CAD bar, selecting the symbol and then using the right selection of mouse clicks to drop the symbol on the map and fill in text if needed. Reading the help file is required for this app. I found no YouTube videos either.

But on the good side the maps are highly detailed for back country drivers. Finding FS109 merging into FS115 near the North Rim for the Toroweap Overlook drive was easy. Using DeLorme was a PITA since when they existed the roads often were not marked. RVPNG on the other hand provides you a spiderweb of tiny roads.

However I have not used it with GPS for actually navigating so I'm not sure how that will work. Driving thru Mobile looking for that turnoff to Hattiesburg for example. Or winding thru Houston.

But for off roaders this looks like it's worth having. I may revert to DeLorme 2015 for cross country travel and use this close in. Or maybe I'll find that old MS software disk.

But if you want PC nav/trip planning and don't have DeLorme or Microsoft then right now this seems to be the only game around.
  • I think the best way with "Trailer Life Navigator" is to set the hours per day of driving. I have found it is pretty accurate by taking into account the type of roads. You can also set it to favor freeways or to favor US or state roads. It is also very easy to add all the "waypoints" and overnights and then see the resulting miles per leg of the trip. You can also set the start times and the stop times. For example start the day at 8:30 and finish the day by 4:00 pm.
  • I was able to buy a copy of the 2011 just a few years ago, but I have no idea if it is still available. I would be interested to know if "RV Plan and Go." is similar?
    ....................................................

We I don't know how to set x number on miles a day but I won't say it cannot be done since this software is anything but transparent.
  • I notice from your photo that this program is from "Undertow Software." They were the makers of the Trailer Life Navigator program which I am still using, though the last version available was 2011. Even though some of the campground information is outdated or missing I still find it of great value in route planning. It is easy to set length of day/miles and find campgrounds in the area of overnight using RV Park Reviews and Google maps.

  • Ages,

You can almost always find a copy of Street Atlas 2015 on Ebay. It has been out of date for at least 5 years.....
But, if you have google maps on something with a GPS, you can hand transfer the day's travel to that and use it. If you have a GPS puck, you can still use SA for enroute, but watch out for changes.
