Using RV Plan and Go-Pc Nav Software
OK I'm getting some experience with RV Plan N Go $28 at Amazon. Right now it's about the only PC trip planning software available and it has not been updated for several years. The others are extinct.
After using this for awhile I'm beginning to understand it better. It is by no means intuitive nor act like you expect a well designed windows software package to work in the 21st century. But it does get there. Leaving a waypoint for the trip for example requires holding down the shift-left mouse buttons. And then only leaves you the choices of -start, finish or via. But on the other hand you can do the trip calculation from that pop up.
Leaving a marker or signpost on the map requires opening the CAD bar, selecting the symbol and then using the right selection of mouse clicks to drop the symbol on the map and fill in text if needed. Reading the help file is required for this app. I found no YouTube videos either.
But on the good side the maps are highly detailed for back country drivers. Finding FS109 merging into FS115 near the North Rim for the Toroweap Overlook drive was easy. Using DeLorme was a PITA since when they existed the roads often were not marked. RVPNG on the other hand provides you a spiderweb of tiny roads.
However I have not used it with GPS for actually navigating so I'm not sure how that will work. Driving thru Mobile looking for that turnoff to Hattiesburg for example. Or winding thru Houston.
But for off roaders this looks like it's worth having. I may revert to DeLorme 2015 for cross country travel and use this close in. Or maybe I'll find that old MS software disk.
But if you want PC nav/trip planning and don't have DeLorme or Microsoft then right now this seems to be the only game around.
