There are 2 campgrounds in the central part of Wells Gray. The 1st, about half way in is close to 2 major waterfalls. The 2nd is a Clearwater Lake (and falls), but that 2nd half of the road is (good) gravel. And, yes do stop at the visitor center.
Last trip through the area we stopped at the 1st campground after a full day's drive from Mt Robson. Then took our time driving to the Clearwater Lake. The third day we again took our time, and got back to the main highway mid afternoon. We did laundry, ate a restaurant, and camped behind a motel in town (Duck Lake). We got to Kamloops by noon.
But it is also possible to drive the whole way from Vancouver the Mt Robson in one day.
