With snow predicted in the Seattle area this evening (the predictions keep getting later and milder), I wondered how travel out of the area was shaping up.
I5 pass into California is bare and dry with a few icy patches, and some roadside snow. Web cams look about the same as the I90 pass out of Seattle.
But I84 through the Gorge, and indeed the whole Portland area looks very messy. And I84 in eastern OR (Blues) is also snowy. We've had big cold front settle over the area, with cold air flow from the interior toward the coast. But a warm wet front is moving north. Evidently the wet is meeting the cold around Portland, while much of Washington is still just cold and clear.
It just shows how you can have nice, if cold, driving conditions in one area, and snow in another. Look again tonight and the drive over I90 will probably be messy. I90 was closed a few days ago because of multiple truck accidents east of the summit.
With different weather conditions you can encounter deadly fogs in Central California, or blowing dust in eastern Washington. Or snow in the southern California passes.
