Waldport, Or to Redmond, Or

40' MH pulling a Jeep.....Will be in Waldport, Or for a few days then need to get east to Redmond.....

Any suggestions on best route to the Interstate 5 area?? Looks like either one of a couple of routes:

1. Hwy 20 thru Corvallis to I-5 then east from there.....Is Hwy 20 doable?? Looks like a smaller road, twisty.....

2. Backtrack a bit to Hwy 18/22 thru Salem to the I-5 area then east from there ...

Suggestions????

Well, they don't call Hy 20 pass in the Cascades Deadman's Pass for no reason!
Anyone know the status of ODOT's boondoggle on 20 near Eddyville?

I think it's actually called Tombstone Pass.

http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2012/03/oregon_department_of_transport.htmlThe Hwy 20 fiasco is far from fixed. The original construction company made a huge error, but it was thankfully discovered. There is some light on the far horizon.

:o:o I actually do believe you are correct! When I typed that I knew it didn't sound correct. Thanks

Through Lincoln City to Salem and Sisters will be much simpler and a stress free drive. Tombstone Pass out of Sweet Home would not be much fun and Hwy 20 to Corvallis is a bit narrow with lots of sharp corners. Hwy 34 is mostly good, but has a short section that would not be enjoyable west of Philomath.

  • 18/22 to Salem & over. You will not like the road from Waldport. Also, do not take the road through Lebanon & Sweet Home. Eddyville is still a mess. No work on new bypass. It looks like all they did recently is paint the lines again on the curve there.
  • I always use 18/22 from Lincoln City to Salem them head to Sisters......very easy drive.
  • Well, they don't call Hy 20 pass in the Cascades Deadman's Pass for no reason! Both are doable and pretty. But 20 has more twisty stuff to it especially between the coast and Corvallis. If time allows and you don't mind the curves do it. I would do 18/22/20. 22 in Salem can be a little confusing so watch the signage.

  • i prefer 18/22 and would stay on 22 to 20 to sisters on to redmond
i take my 40 footer with toad 18/22 thru salem several time each year.
  • Oregon Coast is beautiful - if you have the time consider heading North to Canon Beach and then east to Portland and over Mt Hood to Redmond.
