- donn0128Explorer IIYea, the lake is dry from what I have heard. Has happened in the past, as recently as about 40 years ago. A couple wet winters and it will be full again.

Goose Lake is almost totally dried up for the last few years. I think we're losing that lake!!!
395 is a beautiful drive. Walla Walla to Pendelton is fairly flat. You have a climb out of the Columbia basin through the Blue Mountains and down to the John Day valley. Stop at the Kam Wa Chang pharmacy in John Day. South of John Day you have another moderate climb and decent to Burns. From there its fairly flat easy drive to Alturus,CA. If you need a stop overnight, be sure to check out Goose Lake State Park on the OR/CA border. This year its mostly dry because of lack of snow pack, but a beautiful park none the less.
As an alternative, I would suggest 97 south to LaPinen and SE on 31 to 395 just north of Lakeview. Another very interesting drive. - Us_out_WestExplorerThanks for the replies.
We'll have 100 gallons of diesel on board leaving Walla Walla so fuel is not an issue for us. - BobKrogstieExplorer

Lakeview has diesel. Cheapest has been an independent on the south end of town. Alturus is only about 60 miles further south, so you should be good clear to Reno.

Where do you get diesel in Alturus towing a 40' x 13'5" FW? - donn0128Explorer II

I think you mean Walla Walla to Pendleton is fairly flat. Prineville is further west, closer to US97.
:o OOPS guess my fingers are faster than my brain sometimes. Fixed my mistake, thanks - pauljExplorer III think you mean Walla Walla to Pendleton is fairly flat. Prineville is further west, closer to US97.
- Marine_By_ChoicExplorerRemember that most of the route is "open range", meaning livestock have the right of way.
Enjoy the trip. I love the high desert area of Oregon. - donn0128Explorer II395 is a beautiful drive. Walla Walla to Pendelton is fairly flat.
