There are "Peaceable Journey" laws in many states that allow you to pass through with a firearm as long as you are legal to possess the firearm in the state you left and the state you're going to.
HOWEVER - some states don't recognize Peaceable Journey" laws and some states that do recognize them only follow them if you are travelling through them. If you stop for the night you have to follow the laws for the state, county, and town that you stay in.
