Gun issue aside, have you ever been to NJ? Other than passing through Newark. There are some nice places to camp, hike, beach, etc. Yeah, our elected officials are corrupt and we pay the highest property taxes in the nation. If I wasn't divorced w/ kids I'd get the hell out of here - but not because it isn't nice it's just too damn expensive.
On the gun thing, yeah they make it really hard. I have a firearms purchaser ID which makes it cool to buy a rifle or shotgun. But if you want a handgun you also have to get another, separate permission slip which I also had ("had" because expires after a couple/few months and is only good for the purchase of 2 hand guns). Forget about concealed.
Transporting, the gun can't be accessible. Not loaded and ammunition stowed elsewhere. I may be naive, but I'd like to think if I'm following these rules that I'd stay out of trouble. If someone goes to jail while complying with the rules they probably had something else going on. Not that there aren't overzealous officers out there....
