I would suspect that the local prosecutor would screen these charges and drop them, or reduce them to nothing so the old Dude just gets a slap on the wrist.
The thing that bothers me more about this story is that the arrested person has started a defense fund. You have to wonder how much money he will be making off of that? It is starting to sound like another recent national story about a women shot in the head and killed after a road rage incident. The first "news flash" on that story was that she was just out trying to teach her daughter how to drive, was followed home, and murdered in front of her house. Her husband was crying on the news, and of course they started a national drive to get money for "funeral" expenses right away.
Now the rest of the story is starting to come out that she and her son (who was armed with a 9mm) went out hunting for another individual and then became involved in a shoot out when returning home. Not exactly a story you would want to start donations for just yet!
