I would suspect that the local prosecutor would screen these charges and drop them, or reduce them to nothing so the old Dude just gets a slap on the wrist.
The thing that bothers me more about this story is that the arrested person has started a defense fund. You have to wonder how much money he will be making off of that? It is starting to sound like another recent national story about a women shot in the head and killed after a road rage incident. The first "news flash" on that story was that she was just out trying to teach her daughter how to drive, was followed home, and murdered in front of her house. Her husband was crying on the news, and of course they started a national drive to get money for "funeral" expenses right away.
Now the rest of the story is starting to come out that she and her son (who was armed with a 9mm) went out hunting for another individual and then became involved in a shoot out when returning home. Not exactly a story you would want to start donations for just yet!
With respect C Bears, don't armchair lightly what transpires here in the Garden State with regards to firearms. It's already a tough State, and went off the rails with the CT tragedy. We had to fight legislation tooth and nail - yes, I was in Trenton testifying - and continue to do so to legislate away firearms ownership. NJ is not to be taken lightly or mocked here as the this will not stop at all with a local prosecutor, and NJ has been making examples on pretty much a yearly basis. I'm not here to make a political debate as its not the venue, I just want to say stay your opinion because there is a slant in this state that the overwhelming majority of the country cannot appreciate unless they've lived here.
