While I thank John Burke for his effort, we all have to realize that zealots can be a real issue. If you doubt this at all, Google "Brian Aitken". He was in complete compliance with the laws, but he was still incarcerated for nearly two years.
The real problem in New Jersey seems to that they don't have any means to consider the rationality and intent of their own laws.
When I lived in that same state, I remember being told by a LEO friend that when I transported my shotgun, it had to be in a case, the original case was a fit hard leather luggage case, but I could not use that. If I did and closed that case, it would then be concealed weapon. So, I had to buy a cheezy soft zipper case and leave at least 6" of the zipper open. When I got home, I could put it back in the good case. And that nearly fifty years ago.
In Michigan, open carry is legal. If you open carry and do not have a CCW (CPL), and get into a vehicle, that is now considered a concealed weapon. Every state has its weird side.
