Warning I-20 Closure

For at least the next two days there will be a closure of I-20 both East and West bound near Lindale, Texas; north of Tyler for major bridge repair on the crossover.

Plan alternate route if at all possible. The prediction is for major traffic backup for miles, even though there will be a (very inadequate) detour.

Monday, December 11 -- Wednesday, December 13 -- at the best.
  • The FM849 crossover bridge has to be removed, un repairable after the too tall tank hit it. That's going to back traffic all the way to Dallas on the east bound & Shreveport on the west bound.
If eastbound take Hwy 80 in Mesquite to at least Hwy 69 in Mineola. If west bound take 80 at Waskom all the way to Hwy 19 then south to Canton & back on I20
  • Good information. But before blindly heading off on some alternate route, take a look at google maps. It shows highways green when no problem, orange when a slowdown, red for a major slowdown, and dark red for basically at a standstill. You can tell pretty much exactly how far back the problem is and make a decision on whether to reroute or not. And how far you can go before rerouting. And if the alternate is also backed up. I find the information very accurate and use it when traveling to make my decisions on whether to reroute or grin and bear it.
  • Tyler 10 pm news tonight had a TxDot spokes person who was saying might take as long as end of week , not the 2days they have been saying:S
