- jamesuExplorerGreat route. Stop at US12 summit and look back at Mt. Rainier. A beautiful photo.. Stop at Maryhill Museum and at the Stonehenge WW1 Memorial on the Washington side of the Columbia at Biggs, OR crossing.
US97 is an excellent 2 lane highway all the way to Bend. On your route I gas up in Yakima and Biggs. You will be fine. - OLYLENExplorerThe Bus should make the route on one tank of fuel. Short uphill 6% to White Pass and a longer down hill towards Yakima. Pickup fresh fruit as you get to the valley floor anywhere near Yakima. Satus pass is a Gentle grade both up and down, then into the Columbia river is a fair grade down hill. Then not bad for grades from there to Bend, into desert country then into Juniper and Pine as you get close to Bend. Watch for Elk on the road near Packwood. If you want to jump off the road in Yakima for lunch Miners burgers are a two person meal.
LEN - obgrahamExplorerWhen I head to/from Bend my fuel stop of choice is in Madras, just north of Redmond. Couple of easy entry fuel stations there.
Things get a lot more hectic in Redmond/Bend, as the town has outgrown its road system. - dkreuzenExplorerThere is a Pilot at I-84 on US97. Probably have to use the truck lanes as the car pumps are a little tight.
