Having not driven through the Rockies in my motorhome yet, I'm wondering how grueling the pace would be to travel from West Glacier, MT to Moab if I give myself 4 days. I do have some flexibility and I don't want my wife and daughter to become road weary too early in our trip out West from Connecticut. I think maybe I just answered my own question which is to say that 6 days would be more enjoyable. Please share opinions.
First simple answer is - not a problem through Idaho - think the 900 miles should be easy - BUT - This trip and you will be missing a whole Lot of Beautiful Rocks!
When is this trip - remember Moab can be well into the 100's in the Summer..........
Lots of spots if you could get even a few more days - What is the Mission - how much total time - when will this all take place.
Give us more info we can help,
Thank you for the offer! This trip is going to be about 6 weeks starting June 12 with multi-day stops at Badlands, Yellowstone, Glacier, Arches/Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, and quite a few unspecified days. As much as I'd love to Boondock through the whole trip, I know the reality is that I need to reserve sites in the popular places so I've already begun to do that.
Lets look at in say Weeks or Days 6x7= 42 - break it down into driving days and place days - with you worring about 900 miles and allocating 6 days it will be hard to figure - drive to Custer in the Black Hills id 2000 miles.
With the Glacier to Moab logic you will not make it. Too many miles and Too many Places.
So first ----- think two trips! Upper Rockies and South West.
Week out and Week Back, 28 days in places that will take your Breath away - Custer and the Black Hills if all open will take you 5-6 days -
uster and the Black Hills - Don't forget Bad Lands and Wall Drug
Then into Cody - Long day to drive there, then a couple days there - to do the many drives - Chief Joseph - Bear tooth Highway - Wind River Canyon and Hot Springs - Then the drive into Yellowstone to I guess West Yellowstone as there are no Hook Ups in YNP. now the many sites in a National Park that is almost as big as Your entire state of Connecticut - this will take a long week here - now down through Tetons. Not sure what your feelings are to the Tetons but they are Special - personally I could spend a week just looking and Relaxing there - they are that Spectacular.
Jackson and possibly into Idaho before heading up to Glacier - be sure the 4th is in your sights as it often does not open - Going to the Sun Road - until the 4th - keep that in Mind.
The drive up could include the Tetons from the Back Side - Idaho, completely different. So much to see and do on the Idaho side also then Glacier - Hope Canada has opened up - need to see it all.
Now if you need a little heat you could Catch Flaming Gorge and Dino as you head across on RT 40 in Colorado to Steamboat and RMNP before heading home.
Sorry, Time Flies when your Having FUN. Total trip will likely be about 6,500 miles - if 300 miles per day is your average then you are over half the time just driving - 6,500/300 = 22
That's just a really quick synopsis of your trip, might be too much reality but there is no way to add Utah and Arizona.
