western NC mountains into SC

Question

Heading from the Brevard area south into SC and have several options. US 276, US 178 and US 281 all drop down the escarpment from US 64. I've driven only sections of those in a car and not sure which would be easiest in an RV. 281 is a scenic byway and publications by the state say "Note: The route is not recommended for recreational vehicles
or buses." The two rigs making this trip are a 40' class A with toad, and a 33' fifth wheel. We are looking to join up with I 85 westbound without having to go east to I 26.

178 is pretty crooked from Brevard down to Hwy 11 in SC. It might be doable but it would be a white knuckle drive for sure.

276 would be easier than 178...I've driven both many times. Not sure about 281. No way I would ever choose 178.

We often go from Greenville to Pisgah Forest and always take 64 to Hendersonville and then south on 25. A little further, but much easier and safer.

We drove 178 through that area once, and happened to get behind an antique car cruise. I didn't have white knuckles, but I had steam coming from my ears before we got to hwy 11. There's nowhere to pass more than one car at a time (and those places are few) and these guys were staying bumper to bumper. Not an enjoyable ride on what is a really scenic road!

I don't think you can stay in your lane on 178 with those big rigs. You'll be on blind turns with your tail in the other lane! And I can attest that oncoming traffic will be doing the same.

You'll be in the other lane on 276 too, but only a few times and only once or twice blind.

We're going to take US64 east to 25. We're in no hurry and that sounds like the most stress-free route. Thanks to all who replied.
