We were being charged exorbitant fees by B of A plus ATM fees. While traveling down south, we ran into another couple who did business with Charles Schwab. All ATM fees are returned to your account at the end of the month and there are no internaitonal fees. Another plus is free checks, although we rarely use them. We usually get about $500 U.S. in pesos at the cambio before crossing although we don't get the best deal. We are always afraid of running into empty ATM's. Once on the way, we have time to check for other options.
It is my understanding that if I get pesos before crossing in Mex I have to change my Can dollars in US first, then in Pesos, so I get charged twice for exchange fees?
Unless I would use my credit card or direct payment bank card and get pesos with it at an exchange boot in US before crossing.
Like you say, I would prefer having some pesos before crossing. Anyone knows where is the first easy gettin ATM after crossing at Laredo? I would like to take the Donaldo Colosio Blv, seems to be the best way to get to Highway 85. I see an ATM on Aeropuerto road, seems to be at a PEMEX from Google.
