Unless you're changing huge amounts of money, it is a small price to pay visiting in a foreign country.
Another option is a casa de cambio located in most cities or at border crossings. There is a big difference in prices between the interbancario rate and the casa de cambio rate.
When we were in Canada we found using an ATM the best thing, it was fast and easy. I wouldn't nickel and dime it to death to save a buck or two on a transaction. JMHO
