A number of responses have mentioned taking highway 49, while the most of it is wide open and realitively straight, there are more than a few sections that would be a challenge in a larger RV, including the going through many of the towns along the way. It is a great drive, but just be aware it is not going to be fast and easy. So if you have the time and skill, taking 395 up to either US-50 or I-80 would be the preferred way to go. 99 will get you there quickly, but where's the fun in that.
