Who's heading South to the Gulf Coast or Florida this Fall?

Where from and to, and what's your favorite route(s)? We leave the Adirondacks of Upstate NY towards the end of September each year. We take a different route each time and take most of a month to get to the Tampa area. This year it will be by way of OH, IN, IL, MO, AR, MS, LA, MS and AL. How about you?

Are people who live in Ca. allowed to be Snowbirds? :B Honestly it always sounds so adventuresome and wonderful!

Why not? Many "Snowbirds" don't even own RVs. Seems like if you plan a trip to someplace warmer to escape the cold weather for awhile, or the opposite to enjoy cooler weather for a time you qualify as a bona fide Snowbird. If all else fails plan a fun trip anywhere and call yourself a Snowbird. We won't turn you in.

  • I intended to head for Venice, FL. from Cincinnati, OH. with a stop in Myrtle Beach (to avoid Atlanta, and because I like MB) in late October, spend a couple of weeks with friends in Venice, FL. and drive back. But it occurred to me that I'd be driving north over the Appalachians in late November coming home. Have to be home by then. It doesn't snow much by then, but it does snow. So I'm going in the Spring when the driving will be better the longer I stay. And the snowbirds will all be heading the other direction.

Not us. We'll be enduring another Pennsylvania winter. :(

After "enduring" 60+ years of 30" and 30 below ourselves we can sympathize but now our goal is never to see that white 4-letter word again. As my wife says we waited a long time and now we want our white to be beach sand.

It's nice to see people are taking the time to enjoy the trip and see the sites on the way down instead of thinking they have to make it in two days and OMG, where am I going to spend the night on the way down.

We agree Bill. Now we make a point to spend at least 2 nights at each stop and always ask about the "must-see" places in the area and also where's the best local Mom & Pop restaurant?
  • We will be making the three and a half hour (4 if we work at it) trip to the beach just South of Nahlens. Stay there a few weeks then on to Jacksonville Fla to see the kids. happy travels!!!!!!!

  • We start in south Kentucky and take about a month also. We do go a little further south however.

States are: Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and our home state, Florida.
  • We arrived in Rockport on Aug. 4th. from southern, IL. We left our RV there when we left in the spring to hold our site!
