In terms of the Ontario provincial parks, a lot of effort is put into getting the water systems ready for the season, the techs at Culligan are generally unavailable in early May in the Toronto area as they are on the road servicing the parks water system. Those parks that aren't on city water have the water tested at least weekly as well.
As for the comment about some bottled water coming out of city water, it's true, but having toured a Coca Cola facility (Disani bottled water is produced there as well)the water treatment is impressive, all impurities and chlorine is stripped out prior to preparing the water for bottling (or before being made into Coca Cola). No worries about drinking that stuff (except for the calories in Coke!):).
I worked at the Coca Cola bottling plant in Morganton, NC in the early 1980's. Loved the job, but had to move eventually. I had to clean those tanks that all the "city" water passed through every night. One night, I flipped the wrong lever, and the gravel, sand, carbon layers flipped upside down. I didn't realize I did that, but sure found out about it the next night I went to work.
Yea, they filter the water very good.... but it's definitely not spring water right out of the ground! Well, maybe it's right from the ground, but it came from the city treatment plant before it reached the Coca-Cola plant! I laugh at all the poor miss-led folks who think their bottled water is right out of the ground! Shoot! If the bottled water was right out of the ground, then water right out of the ground at campgrounds would be pristine too! If so, then why pay at the grocery store for bottled?
I still stand with my post above ... drink beer and forget the water! (but water in beer is factory filtered too you know?)
