Traveling in foreign countries is about the same risks of many of the US places you go to.
You just have to watch things that develop around you.
Even places where you would never suspect this like maybe SOUTH BLVD going around Montgomery ALA... It may have gotten better by now but only a few years back this area of town was like a war zone... You know you are in the wrong place when the local police stops you to tell you would be better off going to the other side of town... Then you start looking around and find all of the grand old nite clubs and restaurants and other nite-life things of the 80s and 90s are all boarded up and abandoned.
The local police told us this is NOT the place to be after dark...
