Not sure about routes through Kansas and Nebraska but I would come into SW South Dakota on Hwy 385 from Chadron, NE. Follow 385 through the Black Hills to just north of Deadwood at Whitewood. Take Hwy 34 from Whitewood to Belle Fourche then Hwy 212 up through the corner of WY and into MT. You will come to the Little Bighorn Battlefield a mile before Hwy 212 joins I-90 at Crow Agency. There are no state or federal campgrounds near the battlefield but I have heard good things about 7th Ranch RV Camp 3 miles south. Lots of Forest Service campgrounds in the Black Hills as well as Custer State Park although it can be very busy for the next month due to the Sturgis Motorcycle rally so probably should have reservations.
