hwy 212 coming from the east (heading west)into Lame Deer, MT is pretty. Colorful layers in the hills. Not quite as rugged as the Bad Lands but very pretty.
Are you thinking of stopping at Devil's Tower ?? That's sort of on the way if you are coming out of the Black Hills area.
The grocery store in the middle of Lame Deer (there's only one on main street) has been remodeled and carries a nice selection of items now. The murals on the walls (outside around town) and inside the grocery store are something to see.
If you like Pendleton... The blankets and purses inside the store are good quality and sometimes, I've seen some real bargains on the sale/clearance table.
and just a note... the Little Bighorn Battlefield has shortened hours certain times of the year. Don't make the mistake of getting there at 3:30pm and find out at the gate that it closes at 4pm. Just saying... you might be real disappointed that you didn't know that ahead of time.
oh.. and hwy 39 north out of Lame Deer is a good,scenic, two lane paved road if you want to get to that part of Interstate 94.
