Will the bad news change my plan travel to Mexico?

Spent 10 days traveling around the Yucatan Peninsula - never had a problem and never felt unsafe. Although you have to be smart about it (liek anywhere else)
Don't look like a target, don't venture into sketchy areas (especially at night), stay around well-lit and populated areas etc etc.

The Mexican people are one of the friendliest I have ever met (I speak Spanish - so that helps to break the ice), they are warm, and willing to help.
