My Navy Electronics Systems work used to bring me to the Montgomery AL area alot back in the 70s and 80s and I lived in the hotels up and down SOUTH BLVD for sometimes weeks at a time. Great place after hours entertainment along the south part of town there. Great eating places as well.. This is where the large Truck Stop is off of the I65 exit all the way East to until you run into I85.
Went down that way a few years back and found all of those really nice hotels and business places were almost all gone and everything boarded up - windows with bars on them etc...
CRIME had taken over the whole region there...
I drove through the very large Holiday Inn parking lot where I used to stay showing the wife things and trying to remember how it was not too many years back... Large out of town Music Bands used to come there...
All of a sudden we were surrounded by the local city on both sides of our truck and was told this was not the place to be after 10PM at night... Told them where we was staying which was on the East BLVD part and was promptly told to get back over on that side of town. Was told they had killings and robberies all along the South Blvd of Montgomery AL every night. I used to stay at a RV Place just across from the truck stop there too back in the day.
We haven't been in the Montgomery AL area for a few years now so don't know if all of this is still ongoing or not...
Sad to say I guess there isn't much of any place you can go these days where high crime isn't running out of control... Its not just across the border states anymore...
About all you can do is watch where you step I reckon...
