My wife's relatives, who live in Guadalajara, told me that a couple of days ago, one of the cartels hoisted a large banner across a main highway, warning everyone not to be out past 9 pm because they were going to exact payment from their rivals. This was not meant as a joke. Guadalajara has gotten far more dangerous than ever before. I will be going down there in September, but I will be flying in. Driving is far too risky, even for my wife and I, who were born in Guadalajara. That is just me, so please don't criticize me for using some caution.
