Williamsport PA to Harrisburg PA

When travelling from Williamsport to Harrisburg we take I-180 around Williamsport to avoid the big hill and traffic on US 15. Then we cut across I-80 to get back on 15.

Instead of cutting back across I-80, what is highway 147 like down to Northumberland and then getting on 11 over to 15? It looks like the northern end of 147 is "highway" but the southern end looks to be a tertiary road.

Will I have any issues with our 13 foot, 2 inch tall fifth wheel on 147 as we roll into Northumberland?

Thanks for your input!
  • Thanks for the tips! I am also trying to avoid driving through the towns and it looks like 147 was helping with that. I may cut across 45 to get back to 15.
  • Agree with schlep1967, I take I-180 (147) to RT 45 at Lewisburg, 2 miles+/- to Rt-15. I avoid a lot of traffic the north end of Lewisburg.
Also, If you are looking for an overniter, we have stayed at the Walmart, north end of Lewisberg on Rt-15. Restaurants and Gas.
  • Should have no problems with height. The only tricky part is where 147 hits Rt 11. When making the right onto Rt 11 don't try to do it from the right turn lane. Take a little of the left turn lane as you approach the turn (it is a "T" intersection). 18 wheelers do it all the time. The ones that know how to do it don't run over the curb.

Personally I would take Rt 15 and deal with the little hill. All it takes is for one 18 wheeler to not make it through that tight Rt 147/Rt 11 intersection and traffic is backed up a mile in all directions.
