Windsor to Port Huron with rv

I crossed a couple weeks ago and the signs were screwed up.
The only lanes for cars was the three right most lanes. Not a single line said RV's. All other open lanes were for some type of commercial truck clearance
Good thing I had only my car that night. I would have had to use a truck lane and beg forgiveness.

Hopefully it was an easy crossing as our last trip on our way to and from Iowa. There were 9 cars ahead of us going into the US and that took only about 10 minutes. About the same returning to Canada 12 days later.
On the trip over he asked, where are you from, where are you going and why?? Less than 30 seconds in the booth.

Port Huron has some of the lanes designated for Cars/RVs and some cars only as other have mentioned. At the Ambassador Bridge, we have always been directed to the Truck lanes by the person directing traffic. If you do cross there, keep to the right so you won't have to cut across several lanes if they force you to go thru the truck lanes. We travel in a 40 foot DP towing a car so I don't know if they direct all RVs to the truck lanes or not.

We crossed at Port Huron this afternoon and it is the way FC stated.
A few years back we crossed at Detroit for the first time with an RV.
It was early in the morning and still dark so I pulled in to a gate and they told me I was in the wrong place. I had to back up and go to an other gate with a small RV sign over it.
I did not want to do that with the coach and toad because I can't back up.
Detroit now is marked better and Port Huron is clearly marked.

The lane designation lights on the bridge to the US will say Cars RV's in the same lane but when you get closer to US customs some of the lanes will say Cars only. Its no problem as we have already crossed over there three times this year. We just cam back after a couple nights in Elkhart.

We haven't crossed at Port Huron in the last year or so, things may have changed but at that time cars and RV's went through the same inspection, no special RV lane as at the Detroit bridge.

I avoid the Detroit crossing and use Sarnia instead.

The downfalls of Detroit include the Ambassador bridge, sometimes clogged with truck traffic, leaving only one lane for cars/rv's and getting to it on Huron Church is a pain while in a car, let alone when towing.

The Bluewater has three full lanes and while it may be a few miles/km's further it's not through metro Detroit and 402 goes right to the bridge. I haven't been on interstate 69 since Feb, so I'm not certain on construction but it's not traveled by as much traffic as the interstates around here.
