WV to Gatlinburg, TN

Hello!
We will be taking this trip in a couple weeks. We usually do the I77-81-40 route, but I was looking at possibly taking 7South to I64 to I75 South. I have never been on I75 between Lexington and Knoxville before. Any thoughts on towing on that route? I was just looking at trying something new, and avoiding the WV turnpike is always a good thing.

Thanks!

While your intentions are good I would stick to the I81 to I40 then go south on I40 to exit 435 and pick up 321 into Gatlinburg. Its really a better route to avoid the construction and traffic on 66 in Sevierville. You don't say where exactly you are going in Gatlinburg. Things start getting busy again around here with the fall tourism so it may matter.

Coming in towards Gatlinburg from the east side on 321, so no plans on going through Sevierville

  • Interstate 64 to Interstate 75 and on to Knoxville is the way we always go to Pigeon Forge pulling our 31' 5th wheel. There are no issues with this route! Jellico Mountain is exactly like the previous post says, it's just a long grade that is not bad in either direction.
  • There is a slight grade on I-75 as you cross the KY/TN State line. It's called Jellico Mountain. Not really a mountain, just a long grade. Just pass the 107 exit(Merchant Drive) you come to I-640. If you plan on taking I-40 to the 407 exit to Sevierville, make sure you are in the correct lane. If planning on taking US 441, continue straight ahead on I-275. Then follow directions to 441. This route takes you thru Knoxville.
