Yellowstone entrances

We will be traveling to Yellowstone National Park next year. Are last stop before entering the park will be Cody. This has a direct entrance
(East) but when using the Goon Sam Trip Planner it has me going all the way around Yellowstone to enter from the West. Has anyone with a 40ft. RV enter from the east? Any issues?
Thanks
  • Roads in Yellowstone are closed during the winter. Sometimes when I've sought Google Maps routes through or into the park, it can't take me there, or goes around because of these closures. Setting the departure time to a summer date may avoid this.

You can test this now, by seeking a route between Cody and West Yellowstone. Compare the route now with what it gives you for a November date.
  • Have you checked the roads TO Cody? Maybe the planner is avoiding some of those roads.
  • We were out there a few years ago going from Cody to West Yellowstone Mt.My GPS was telling me the same thing(to go around)It wasn't until we got to Norris Geyser Basin that it finally got it right. Could've been very confusing if we hadn't been there before.Road is fine for your rig>
  • I like the east entrance best through Shoshone Canyon past Paha Tipi Buffalo Bill's hangout. It is a good place to look for moose. Before the wolves I always saw moose there, every trip.

    Your trip planing is wrong..
X2, no reason you can't come in from Cody. I'd like to see this magical interesting route that takes you from Cody into the West entrance !! :h:S
