Well, I have been stuck in the car, on the freeway, for 8 hours while 3 jacknifed trucks were removed from the road. Could not get to an exit.
Check DOT websites, and look at their webcams to see the condition of the pavement. Keep your schedule flexible. Be ready to wait out a storm for a few days in a motel. Drive the passes in the early afternoon, on warm days if you can get any, so there is least chance of ice.
