1 night sleepovers between Ft Collins, CO and Jackson, WY?

I'm looking for recommendations for a place to stay 1 night while traveling from Ft Collins to Colter Bay Village RV Park in Grand Teton NP.

Here's the Google Maps view of the route.

We just don't want to go 429 mi in one day and arrive wiped out, so we were thinking of going 2/3 the way and bedding down, maybe around Riverton-Arapahoe-Hudson-Lander area.

It seems pretty slim pickings (for good places) according to rvparkreviews.com...

  • We have stayed a couple of times at Sleeping Bear RV park in Lander. Nice place and zero complaints. Nice staff, clean and quiet campground, level pull-thru sites to enable staying connected, close in town. Perfect for quiet overnight stop.
  • I was also thinking of Dubose. That way you will have a much easier drive on to the Tetons on the second day. We have always enjoyed staying there and stopping at Togwotee Pass for nice views of the Tetons in the distance.
  • Longhorn RV Park, Dubois, WY. Right on the Wind River.
  • Every time we've stopped in the area, it's been Sinks. As far as I know Landers has a city park that is open for overnighters. Get there, then you'll have time to explore Downtown & Sinks.
  • X3 on a stop to see the Sinks, but the small campground there has only a few long and level sites so getting one will likely be a problem. That said, it's a very nice place to camp if you can get a site for your size rig.

We have also stayed at Sleeping Bear in Lander, latest in 2014. It's on the left just as you come into town on 287.

X2 on Sinks in Lander... well worth the visit. Free camping is reported at the Lander city park.
  • We did that trip two years ago, only we drove 287/26 all the way. Took our time and enjoyed the scenery it really wasn't that bad. I usually drive 6-7 hours a day when on our trips. We ran into the same thing for a place to stay in between, just decided not to stop.
  • I've stayed at Sleeping Bear RV park in Lander a lot of times. Nice park high on a hill close to town.
