40 days Boondocking / Dry Camping

Just returned from a 51 day trip thu Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Nevada. Boondock & Dry Camp 40 days of the 51. Would have been more but someone caravan back with us to AZ who needed shore power since the Temps were 100+ degrees. Drove only 200 miles on freeways on the way to Pacific Northwest but drove freeway 700 miles of the homeward bound leg. Used Free Campsites, https://freecampsites.net/, and US Campgrounds, http://www.uscampgrounds.info/ for all the camping. NO Walmarts, LOL! Great Trip!

  • My kind of trip! I have no solar, no generator, A/C in truck cab but not in coach area. 2 6V batteries charged when driving by the truck's heavy-duty alternator.

A Fantastic Fan and one of those high-tech "cooling towel" thingies do really help in hot weather. I did shorten a recent trip because of heat issues; a person can take only so much.

Sounds great. I have 540 Watts Solar and 500 amp hours of Battery. Have portable solar generator. Couple questions:
    1) Is your 720 watts on top of your rig?
    2) You mention friends needed AC...which implies you did not. Are you able to run AC for short periods

All solar is on the roof.
Have to run the gen when using AC, takes two units to cool the rig. We tried to stay high enough in the mountains to limit gen use. Mostly successful. No replacement for a gen when it is hot and you need AC. Leg home was just too hot so we also used the shore power. Sorry about not being clear.

  • Excellent. I would have needed power too if it's that hot.
