Last fall we installed AC in the camper because we were planing a southwestern trip for spring 2013. A week in Phoenix this last May proved the AC's worth.
Staying inside an air conditioned small RV is better than staying in one without it.
But if that's camping I don't like it.
But you went to an area that is known for heat, during a time that it is hot. You said the A/C was worth it. Unfortunately, for those south of the mason-dixon, if we want to go camping during the summer months for a weekend, then we more than likely won't go or will use an a/c. Doing stuff outside during the day is a common thing. We go play in the creeks, lakes, oceans or pools to cool off. At night, it is not very comfortable to sleep in the heat and humidity. No matter what kind of 12v fan you got, it will still be very uncomfortable. We have 2 fantastic fans and with both of them running, we were miserable one night of recent camping. The temp during the day was in the high 80's. At night, it didn't drop a whole lot, was humid and no breeze where we were at. We went home the next day. Good thing it was only 5 miles away...lol
