It's hard to explain to someone living in the West, where BLM's are abundant. It costs a couple thousand to come up with a solar system to sustain my fifth wheel for a period exceeding two days. Once you spend the money, there are few places here in the East to enjoy them. So, on the rare occasion we get to boondock, we use our Honda inverter to recharge batteries. This is the same generator I use for standby power in my home. I love boondocking and will go to great effort to be sure my generator is never a bother others. I usually ask my closest neighbors to let me know if I am disturbing them.
My point is that, although I would love to have 1000 watts of solar solar power, I can't justify the cost when boondocking opportunities, other than WalMart parking lots, are so rare, east of the Mississippi.
